There is no power going to fuel pump. I changed relay still no power bought new pump still no power. The car was driving perfectly fine. Hi there. The ECM controls the fuel pump relay and this relay will only energize when commanded on. Does the check engine light come on; if not, then the ECM is not turning on. Do all the other combination meter warning lights come on?
Are there any codes stored in the ECM? There are a lot of things that need to be verified before replacing any other parts as this will eventually become very expensive. Many times, the battery has failed and the vehicle will not start or provide power; it could simply be worn out or there could be a parasitic draw or a weak alternator that is not properly charging.
A test of the battery with a digital tester that provides current voltage, cold cranking amps, and state of health should be done first. The battery is the heart of the electrical system and if it stumbles or fails, it can affect all other systems. I strongly suggest having a qualified technician perform an inspection to avoid replacing unnecessary parts. Your Mechanic has several available technicians that can assist you with a car does not start inspection.

The first place to start is to check the ignition 12 volt power feed at the fuel gauge to see that it is powered up. If you DO NOT have 12 volts ignition on the fuel gauge, check the gauge fuse to see if it is good, and make sure the ignition switch is powering the ignition pink wire on the ignition blade of the switch.
The fuel gauge should immediately go to empty. If the fuel gauge responds correctly, the fuel gauge and sending unit wire at this point are reacting correctly. Next, check the fuel tank float assembly to see if the grounding terminal on the float assembly has a good grounding point to the chassis.
If the ground wire looks good, the problem most likely resides in the fuel tank float assembly, and may need to be replaced. The location can be different, however, in some other cars. Without this relaythe engine would not receive fuel while starting. The pump that delivers fuel to the engine while the engine is running requires electricity in order to operate. This electricity is created by an oil pressure device in the engine.
If this sound is not audible, it is an indication that the pump relay may not be functioning as it should. When this relay fails the engine will start after the starter motor has pumped up sufficient oil pressure to send electricity to the fuel pump and run it. This can make the cranking of the engine last longer than normal. If you hear no humming from the fuel pump but the car eventually starts and runs fine, then the fuel pump relay has failed. If the fuel pump relay fails, the engine management system records this event.
A fuel pressure sensor lets the computer know if the fuel pressure has not created any pressure during cranking operation. On some vehicles, there will only be an oil light indicator.
When the indicator light goes out, then there is oil pressure. Step 3: Park your vehicle on a flat, hard surface. Make sure that the transmission is in park for automatics or in 1st gear for manuals. Step 4: Place wheel chocks around the tires. In this case, the wheel chocks will be around the front tires since the rear of the vehicle will be lifted up.
Step 5: Install a nine volt battery saver into your cigarette lighter. This will keep your computer live and keep your setting current in the vehicle. Step 7: Locate the fuse box in the engine compartment. Remove the cover to the fuse box. Step 8: Using the diagram on the fuse box cover, locate the fuel pump relay. Once you open up the fuse box, you can use the diagram on the fuse box cover to find the fuse to the fuel pump relay. Step 9: Remove the fuel pump relay from the fuse box.
Play attention to how the relay comes out as the new one needs to go in the same way. Also, if your fuse box cover does not have any diagrams on it, you can refer to your owner's manual for the engine compartment fuse box diagram. Usually, owner's manuals will have numbers listed next to the fuel pump relay for you to find the number on the fuse box.
Step 1: Install relay. Install the relay into the fuse box the same way the old relay was removed. Step 3: Remove the fuel cap from the fuel tank. Put the fuel cap back on and make sure that it makes a good seal.GM Fuel Pump Relay Testing

I took of the cover and engaged it manually but pump still does not run. I used my test light at the pump and its getting power when I engage the relay manually. Im prity sure I need a new pump, but why doesnt the relay work right when I turn key on? The pump is most likely bad. When I returned home, and was heading back out the car would not start. It would turn over, however it would not start. After spraying starter fluid in the intake to car ran briefly then stalled.
I checked the fuse under the hood and it was good. Before replacing the fule pump, I would like to know if it could be the relay. I saw a site on line that said it was in the glove box however it does not seame to be there. Does the model in fact have a fule pump relay and if so where would it be? I still have no pressure or fuel at shrader valve behind the plenum. Please help. I need to get to work. Fuses and relay good. Replaced the oil pressure switch still nothing.
It turns over but does not start. The key gets stuck every time. Something has shut the fuel pump off is there something else to check before I can say its actually the fuel pump.
Is there a cutoff switch or reset switch. Or another relay somewhere I cant find. Looked behind glove box nothing there. Did you check the circuits at the fuel pump relay? With the engine cranking, do you have spark at the plugs?
GMC Savana (1997-2002) fuses and relays
What circuits do I check. Is it possible for a fuel pump to go out just like that.In this article, I'm gonna' show you the most effective way to test the fuel pump on GM 4. I've also included how to check a no fuel condition with starting fluid although this is not the most effective way to test the fuel pump.
It's been my experience that misdiagnosing a bad fuel pump is a common occurrence on the 4. When this happens, you're able to spray starting fluid or carb spray down the engine and it'll start and run once you turn it off, you have to spray again to get it started. Yes, let me repeat that one more time: As crazy as this sounds, the fuel pump will deliver enough fuel to keep the engine running, but not enough to start it when you're cranking the engine and this makes a lot of folks think that the problem lies anywhere else but in the fuel pump!
Owning a fuel pressure gauge is now becoming a must. All vehicles now use an electrical fuel pump to deliver fuel under high pressure to the fuel injectors and the best way to diagnose this fuel pump is with a fuel pressure gauge. In all of the GM 4.
The price difference depends on what type of fuel pressure gauge set you buy, this means either buying a non-professional technician grade tool or a professional technician grade tool. Whichever one you buy, it's an investment that will pay for itself many times over.
Your local Parts House will have a fuel pressure gauge set to sell you, although you'll pay more for it and it won't be a professional grade tool if that's what you're looking for. In the next paragraphs I'll explain why. Why do I know this is a good tool? Well, I own one I also have a professional level grade fuel pressure gauge set and I have used it in a regular manner and I can tell you that it works.
The only things I don't like about it is 1. No molded case to put the fuel pressure gauge and the fittings that go with it and 2. You can't buy the fittings, that you may lose or break, separately. But for the price, it's a great deal. You'll be able to test most of the GM vehicles, most Ford vehicles, among several makes. Although this is not that important if you're only worried about testing your GM vehicle.
So, if you work on cars for a living and you work on a variety of Makes and Models, this is the fuel pressure gauge set that you need to have in your tool box. Since this fuel pressure gauge set is a professional grade technician tool, you can buy most of the components, that make up the set, separately. This comes in handy, because you're able to buy whatever fitting you lose or gets damaged.
Also, and probably the last consideration, is that this is an OTC tool, and OTC has been around for a long, long time and makes a ton of automotive specialty tools known for quality. The fuel system in your 4.
Anything less and it will crank for ever before it starts or not start at all. So, the very first thing you need to do is to verify that the fuel pump is delivering at least 50 PSI of fuel pressure while the engine is cranking.
Fuel pump relay location
Yes, while the engine is cranking. This is where you'll connect your fuel pressure gauge the first photo, in the image viewer, is of a 4. Connect your fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader valve.
Before you install the fuel pressure gauge, place some rags around it and underneath the fuel line in case some fuel spills out when you connect the gauge to it. Pressurize the fuel system by activating the fuel pump. You can do this by simply turning the Key On and Off several times. Once the fuel pressure gauge registers pressure, check for fuel leaks around the Schrader valve.
It's very important that NO fuel leaks are present for the accuracy of the test. Once you have verified no fuel leaks, continue to the next step. Have your assistant crank the engine as you eyeball the fuel pressure gauge. It's important that you have someone else crank the vehicle so that you can eye-ball the fuel pressure gauge. You'll get one of two results with this test: 1.Lake Ford helped make these videos.

The video above shows how to replace blown fuses in the interior fuse box of your GMC Jimmy in addition to the fuse panel diagram location. Electrical components such as your map light, radio, heated seats, high beams, power windows all have fuses and if they suddenly stop working, chances are you have a fuse that has blown out.
If your Jimmy is experiencing electrical problems, you should always check the fuses first, because they are relatively easy to check and cheap to change. Some GMCs have multiple interior fuse boxes including in the trunk - the video above will show you where the interior fuse box of your Jimmy is located. If your Jimmy has many options like a sunroof, navigation, heated seats, etc, the more fuses it has. Some components may have multiple fuses, so make sure you check all of the fuses that are linked to the component in question.
If you need to replace a blown fuse in your Jimmy, make sure you replace it with one that has the same amperage as the blown fuse. If checking and replacing the fuse for the component in question doesn't work, we recommend seeking assistance from a trusted professional mechanic.
They should be able to figure out if the component needs to be replaced or if there is a short or some other problem with your Jimmy. Many cars will burn or leak a little bit of oil.
