Learn More. Your transmission is responsible for making your car move — it transfers the power from the engine to the wheels. The trouble may be pinpointing what it is. Transmissions work in different ways, depending on whether you have a manual or an automatic transmission.

All you have to do is put the gear selector in drive, and press the gas pedal.

The transmission will automatically shift at certain engine RPMs to ensure a smooth acceleration process. As you can imagine, both manual transmissions and automatic transmissions require many different components in order to operate.

Some of these can create a whining noise when in gear. For some transmissions, a little whine in certain gears is completely normal. In others, not so much. Low Transmission Fluid : For both manual and automatic transmissions, the primary cause for whining when in gear is low transmission fluid. If the fluid is too low, then the internal components of the transmission are not lubricated properly. Normal Operation : As mentioned, some transmissions have an inherent whine that is completely normal.

Depending on the make and model, the whine might be primarily audible in first gear, or it could be more noticeable in third gear, or some other gear. The best defense here is to know what overcooked 2 seasonal levels transmission sounds like normally.

Bad Input Shaft Bearing : This is an internal bearing within the housing of the transmission, and it can create a whining sound when it begins to fail.

A certified mechanic will come to your home or office to inspect your transmission and verify the whining noise. The mechanic will then provide a detailed inspection report that includes the scope and cost of the necessary repairs. The mechanic will first inspect the transmission, including the level of transmission fluid.I leased a Mazda CX-5 in October At just around the 7k milage mark, I started hearing squeaky brakes when I was driving along at lower speeds, then stopping.

I thought it might go away, but it became continual, and my commute is 30 miles each way in heavy traffic. Therefore, I was hearing this loud yes, quite loud squeak constantly. It was beyond annoying! I took the car to the dealer numerous times, and they could never hear the noise. Brought in again, and finally the tech heard the issue as I was driving out of the bay with him.

He jumped out and listened closely to me drive and stop, and everyone heard it and agreed it was rear brakes causing the noise. So they decided to lube up the brakes really good and see if it went away. It did - for 2 months. Once it started up again, the dealer then replaced all the brakes to see if the issue went away. It did not! After hearing from the service tech that it's the car and Mazda doesn't have great parts, blah blah Once my Sales Rep heard that, she took action.

Called me the next day saying they wanted to get me into a new car since they couldn't find the issue with this. I was now at 20k miles and one year after the lease contract, so that's 13k miles of them not figuring out what was wrong with my brakes.

Hoping this was just a fluke since no one else seemed to be complaining of the issue but me. People in the CX-5 Facebook club weren't, the dealer told me he hadn't heard from any other owners of the issues taking that with a grain of salt, of course but also people I know that own the car, same year. Thinking I'm in good shape. I'm now eight months into the new car, with 9k miles and I've been hearing the rear break squeaking for 2k miles now!

Exactly the same time it started with the last car. It can't be just a fluke for me to have two cars with the same issue, but no one else? I'm not hearing things - I have audio of the noise, my friend's husband heard it for two seconds and said what it was he's a mechanic.I don't understand a lot of the reviews that I've seen here. I read some of the complaints and you could tell that these people forget what a car is supposed to be and do.

This is an SUV meaning its bigger than a regular car so it takes more effort to cool, consider installing tinted window film if you need a cooler car. In terms of some of the other non-functioning or not to my liking features, please read the car manual, it is all in there.

Some of the options could be disabled if it is too much work learning how to use them properly. This is a great car for the money, and it is the reason that I traded my for a brand new There was nothing wrong with thebut having to get rid of my son's old car with high mileage, I found a great deal trading in both my cars for the new one. This car is the complete package; amazing performance, very safe, awesome looks, quality construction, very reliable and a bargain for your money.

Like all cars, there are some flaws in the CX5, but so far I have not heard of the perfect car out there and probably never will, as each one of us have different needs and wants. That being said, the flaws I will talk about are minimal and won't affect your decision when buying a great performing SUV.

It is still a nice sound system and being packaged with the moonroof, makes sense for the price. The regular sound system with 6 speakers instead of the Bose 9, should be very weak. It does take some getting used to versus the old tom-tom system, but I believe it's an upgraded version and you get 3 years of free map upgrades. Again, no big deal. That being said, I love the new infotainment and its larger 7-inch touchscreen interface and the multifunction controller knob, it makes the whole driving experience better.

You feel in control of all your needs with a touch of a button music, phone, gps, etc. I love the new keyless entry feature with just the press of a button at the doors and also the trunk. I definitely noted two big differences from my model, the quietness inside the cabin which I love and that is because Mazda added sound insulation for reduced road noise, and a smoother ride as a result of the revised suspension tuning.

The smoother ride is something that I am still getting used to, being a speed junkie myself and a kart enthusiast I like a stiffer suspension, it gives me a better feel for the road.

Nonetheless it makes for a more luxurious drive and I'm sure a lot of people will like that better. This is one of the things that is a matter of personal taste. On the other hand, Mazda added a "sport" mode selector that you can choose if you like higher revs and get the most out of its powerful engine.

I am very happy with this vehicle. I have taken it on a long road trip and it is so comfortable, but also very responsive when you need to make a pass or speed up. I am sure everyone will find a comfortable position on the driver's seat.

If you're looking for a compact SUV that feels bigger than it looks, gives you a quality ride without sacrificing performance and has anything you would like to have in today's car environment, look no further this is your car. Mazda quality has been proven for decades and their car engineering is at the top of the charts. I recently traded in my Mazda 3 for the more future family friendly cx I was hesitant leaving my sporty 4 door sedan at first, but I couldn't be happier with my cx It is a fun, fuel efficient, capable suv.

We've taken it from Maryland to Atlanta for a road trip and was able to drive through a snow storm in the process odd that NC got hit with a snow storm though. Nonetheless, it's awd handled great in the snow and the cx-5 produces confidence when driving in extreme confusions. The ride comfort is great considering how the suspension is tuned. Some things are often misunderstood about recalls and technical service bulletins TSBs. Plus a disclaimer. NHTSA a government agency can only require a recall if a failure will affect safety, emissions, fuel economy, or compliance with some other regulation or law.

Manufacturers can voluntarily recall cars for problems that do not affect these, though. Recalls often apply to only some cars of a specific model year, rather than all of them. You should receive a letter from the manufacturer if your car has been recalled. You can also check with the dealer, which will know which if any recalls pertain to your car.

The primary purpose of TSBs is to inform dealers about known problems with a car and how to fix them. They are not the same as recalls.

As with recalls, TSBs often only apply to some cars, not the entire model year. Dealers often will not provide a preventive repair just because a problem described in a TSB might happen to your car. They'll usually want to observe symptoms that the problem is already affecting your car.I've taken the car to the dealership and they have yet to determine the root of the problem.

It doesn't affect safety, but makes the car frustrating to drive. The top of the drivers door rattles especially if a song has any bass to it. Dealership replaced innards of the top of the door once.

It is now making the same noise again. The passenger side does not make this noise. I took the car to service department at Fremont Mazda for checking the noise, and left it there for two days. They called me said they took the doors apart and fixing the noise, and it is ready to pick up. It was pm, I was in hurry to go back to work. After I park at parking lot at work, I found the bumper hit by car, some paint was chipped.

I called them back right away, and drove the car to show them at pm. They said I had to see service manager. I went back next day to see David the service manager, he said technicians said they found the damages there. I told him it is not true. He offered no help at all and the rattling noise is still there, nothing improved.

I hope if you have new CX-5 with rattling noise, you are not alone, please write reviews, talk with class action attorney, that is what I am doing. If you have a for-profit service, contact us. Ask your Mazda dealer.

It has an engaging driving character, yet it still gives you pretty much everything you're looking for, including great fuel economy.

Let's take a closer look at what makes this Mazda tick. With their ample cargo capacity, good fuel efficiency, elevated driving positions and enhanced foul-weather driving capability, compact crossover SUVs have massive appeal. Indeed, this is one of the most popular vehicle segments. And within that crowded class, the Mazda CX-5 stands as one of our favorite picks. What pushes this Mazda to the front of the class is that, in addition to satisfying those core requirements, it also boasts a nicely trimmed cabin, excellent safety ratings, a smooth and quiet ride, comfortable seats and good visibility.

The CX-5 also has something quite rare in this segment: a fun-to-drive personality that comes by way of its precise steering and sporty handling. With the bigger engine that's standard on most trim levels, the CX-5 also provides an impressive combination of peppy acceleration and high fuel economy. Whether you're driving to work, running errands or dropping the kids off somewhere, the Mazda CX-5 is enjoyable to drive and as comfortable and easy to live with as a favorite pair of jeans.

Those traits also make the CX-5 a great road trip companion. We think the Mazda CX-5 is one of the best crossovers on the market. ForMazda has updated the CX-5 in a few areas. Refinements include styling tweaks to the front and rear ends, an electronic parking brake, added sound insulation for reduced road noise, an updated infotainment system and revised suspension tuning for a more comfortable ride.

There's also more cabin storage thanks to larger door pockets and a bigger console bin. Mazda improved the seats as well, with the backseat gaining a larger seat-bottom cushion.

If you're looking for a weak spot in this generally excellent package, the main one is the base 2. It's pretty low on power and, although it's quite fuel-efficient, it has a negligible advantage over the significantly better-performing 2. In addition, the Mazda CX-5's sound systems are subpar. Even the uplevel Bose system delivers unimpressive audio quality.

There are a lot of good choices in the small crossover class, so it's worth checking out your options before making a decision. The Honda CR-V has lots of space, a high-quality interior and a likable, easygoing driving demeanor.

It's not as athletic as the CX-5, but it's an equally desirable choice.

There's also the Ford Escapewhich has a top-notch interior as well as the option of a powerful, turbocharged engine. The Toyota RAV4 boasts a roomy cabin and is especially comfortable on the highway. For those interested in a small crossover SUV that can handle the occasional off-road excursion, we recommend looking at the Jeep Cherokee and Subaru Forester.

While each of these competitors has certain advantages, the Mazda CX-5 is one of the best all-around vehicles in this segment and deserves strong consideration.New New posts New media New resources. Log in Register.

Because we need different adjustment for the seat, we use the power-seat feature quite often.

Lately, the power-seat's motor started to make louder noise. The motor is still able to get the job done but with such loud noise. I have looked under the seat and there is nothing that might have clogged the gear. Do you have this issue? Clean the rails try some silicone spray. Last edited: Jul 17, SayNoToPistons Wheels, not rims I have the same issue that I posted about a while back.

Not going to bother greasing it as there is an obvious fault. Gets worse when the temperatures fall. When you adjust the seat and it makes noise, are you sitting in the seat? My wife sits up high so I have to move the seat down while I'm outside the car, just to be able to get in. And which direction are you moving the seat when it makes the noise?
